What is the difference between Semaglutide and Tirzepatide
At Morpheus Medical Aesthetics, we are excited to offer our patients an effective weight loss program, sometimes referred to as the “Skinny Shot,” available at both our Santa Rosa and Larkspur Med Spa locations. This program includes the use of FDA-approved medications, Semaglutide and Tirzepatide, to help you achieve your weight loss goals. Here’s a detailed look at these medications and what you can expect from our program.
What is Semaglutide?
Semaglutide is an FDA-approved medication originally developed to treat type 2 diabetes. It works by mimicking a hormone called GLP-1 (glucagon-like peptide-1), which helps regulate appetite and food intake. This results in reduced hunger and increased feelings of fullness, making it easier to consume fewer calories and lose weight. Semaglutide is administered as a subcutaneous injection, meaning it is injected under the skin.
What is Tirzepatide?
Tirzepatide is another FDA-approved medication that works similarly to Semaglutide but is known to be more potent. It targets both GLP-1 and another hormone called GIP (glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide), which further enhances its weight loss effects. However, Tirzepatide is significantly more expensive and is not routinely kept in stock at our locations due to its higher cost.
The Weight Loss Program
Our weight loss program is an 8-week comprehensive plan designed to support you every step of the way:
Duration: 8 weeks (less or more depending on the patient)
Cost: $3,000 (prices may vary from the time this article was published)
Includes: Weekly coaching sessions and weekly subcutaneous injections of Semaglutide
Dosage: Tailored to your weight loss goals
Post-Program Options
After completing the initial 8-week program, our clients have the option to order additional Semaglutide to continue their weight loss journey on their own.
Addressing Side Effects
While Semaglutide is generally well-tolerated, some clients may experience side effects. If the side effects are particularly troublesome, we can offer Tirzepatide as an alternative. Please note that Tirzepatide is much more expensive than Semaglutide and requires special ordering due to its cost and potency.
