Neuromodulators are an Anti-wrinkle Treatment that works by relaxing the facial muscles that lead to the formation of some lines, known as dynamic wrinkles. By targeting the muscles, neurotoxins can give you a smoother, more refreshed appearance that lasts for many months. Neurotoxins tend to work best on the following types of lines:

• Horizontal forehead lines
• Vertical lines between the eyebrows (frown lines)
• Horizontal lines across the nasal bridge (bunny lines)
• Fine lines feathering out from the corners of the eyes (crow's feet)

At Morpheus Medical Aesthetics, we offer three different types of neuromodulators, which allows us to customize treatments to the precise needs and desired outcome of each of our patients:

Botox – This tried-and-true anti-wrinkle treatment was approved by the FDA as a cosmetic treatment in 2002 and continues to be the go-to for most patients looking for a neuromodulator treatment today. In addition to its usefulness as an anti-aging treatment, Botox has also been used for decades to treat different medical conditions, including uncontrollable eye twitching, migraine headaches and excessive sweating.

Dysport – This neuromodulator received FDA clearance in the U.S. in 2009 to treat glabellar (frown) lines. Like Botox, this formulation has also been approved for treating some types of medical conditions. Dysport offers very similar results to Botox, but subtle differences might make this product a preferred treatment over Botox for some patients. Our expert staff will be able to determine the best neuromodulator for you based on the wrinkles you want to address, the results you hope to achieve and your history with neuromodulators.

Xeomin – In 2011, the FDA added Xeomin approval to the neuromodulator list, offering even more choices for patients that wanted to minimize the appearance of wrinkles in the upper face. The product provides the same treatment options that Botox and Dysport provide, but slightly different properties may lead to even better results for some patients.

Neuromodulators work well for both men and women that want to minimize the appearance of wrinkles in the upper face. The formulations are effective on any skin tone and type and may be recommended for patients of all ages.

Whether you see the early signs of line formation or you have creases firmly etched in the skin, Botox can help you reduce the wrinkles and achieve a refreshed look overall.

A neuromodulator treatment takes just a few minutes for Dr. Chilcott or one of our other injection experts to complete. Most of our patients find the procedure to be sufficiently comfortable without the need for numbing cream or ice.

The injections are carefully placed to target the muscles so the medication can relax them and smooth away lines in the process. You will need to have multiple injections to achieve an outcome that is both even and natural.

You should be able to return to your daily routine immediately following your procedure. Some patients experience mild swelling or bruising around the injection sites, but those side effects should dissipate within a matter of days. Many of our patients don't have any noticeable signs they just had an anti-aging treatment performed. We do advise patients to refrain from vigorous exercise for the first few hours after a neurotoxin treatment to ensure the formula doesn't accidentally migrate to other areas of the face.

You may see the results of your neuromodulator injections begin to appear shortly after your procedure. Some patients notice a smoother look within a matter of days. However, it usually takes about two weeks for the full effects of the treatment to become evident.

Neuromodulators offer quick results, but they are not permanent. In most cases, positive changes persist for three to four months. At that point, you will need an additional session to maintain your refreshed appearance.

Some patients discover that by adhering to a regular treatment schedule, they can begin to space appointments a bit further apart over time without sacrificing their results. It may be the muscles “train” to relax for longer, allowing you to enjoy a rejuvenated look for longer intervals.
