IPL Photofacials

Is your skin showing signs of sun damage or other types of damages?

A number of facial blemishes can appear over time that can negatively affect your appearance. In some cases, facial blemishes can result from sun damage, while in others, these concerns can be inherited, such as rosacea. Many men and women struggle with these cosmetic concerns, and they can be particularly devastating because they can potentially worsen if left untreated. Thankfully, cosmetic technologies exist to help correct these issues safely and effectively.

At Morpheus Medical Aesthetics, we offer patients the opportunity to alleviate certain facial blemishes by way of an IPL Photofacial. We perform IPL Photofacials at our Larkspur location (Marin County - California) with the best and latest technology: The Nordlys Ellipse IPL Laser. This unique device can successfully repair years of sun damage, among other cosmetic concerns. At our Santa Rosa (Sonoma County - California) location, we utilize the technologically advanced elōs Plus SRA Laser, an exceptional device that treats various cosmetic problems.

Photo Facials, also known as Intense Pulsed Light (IPL), Fotofacial or SRA Color Correction, deliver high-intensity, computer-controlled pulses of light that penetrate your skin and heat the sub-surface layers.

Experience the Power of the Nordlys Ellipse IPL Laser at Our Larkspur Location

At Morpheus Medical Aesthetic's Larkspur location, we perform IPL Photofacials with the Ellipse IPL Laser, part of the technologically advanced Nordlys System. This FDA-cleared laser treats large and small cosmetic concerns by delivering concentrated light energy to the skin, which causes unwanted pigments and blood vessels to break down. Additionally, the unique laser stimulates the body's production of collagen and elastin fibers, vital proteins that make the skin tighter and more youthful.

Residents of Santa Rosa and Sonoma County who struggle with these concerns can also improve them by undergoing treatment with our advanced elōs Plus SRA Laser. This device combines the power of IPL and radiofrequency (RF) energy and is particularly well-suited for treating brown spots. During the treatment, targeted tissues selectively absorb energy, which it then converts into thermal energy to preheat the tissues. The treatment then induces the body's natural healing response, stimulating the body's production of collagen and elastin. The result is tighter skin and a clearer complexion.

Who Is a Good Candidate for an IPL Photofacial?

Photo Facial Treatments address a wide variety of skin conditions:

  • Sun damage
  • Rosacea
  • Skin texture
  • Redness
  • Broken capillaries
  • Brown spots
  • Age spots
  • Sun-induced freckles on the hands, chest and face
  • Excels in helping the reduction of fine wrinkles and large pores

An IPL Photofacial with the Nordlys Ellipse IPL Laser is particularly beneficial at addressing red lesions, such as port-wine stains, rosacea and broken capillaries. Patients struggling with brown spots, such as sunspots and age spots, will experience benefits from the elōs Plus SRA Laser. However, some contraindications may prevent you from being a suitable candidate for an IPL Photofacial, including if you have an open lesion on your skin or skin cancer. During an initial consultation at Morpheus Medical Aesthetics, your provider will review your skin's quality and medical history to ensure candidacy.

What should I expect during a Photo Facial?

After determining whether a Photo Facial is an appropriate treatment for your skin type and concerns, a 30 to 45 minute appointment will be scheduled. We apply a topical numbing agent and use a cooling machine to decrease the discomfort of the laser pulses, which feels like "rubber band snapping" on your skin's surface.

Photo Facials are capable of two processes at once. During treatment, the IPL wavelength is optimized so that the energy is absorbed by 1) unwanted melanin and 2) small broken blood vessels. The heat absorption causes the melanin cells to shatter and the broken vessels coagulate.

For some clients, we recommend a second or third IPL Treatment to even out extensive brown spots. You can enhance your treatment by using skin-lightening topical treatments before and after your Photo Facial. Preserving and protecting your beautiful new skin with sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or more is always recommended.

What Results Can I Expect After an IPL Photofacial?

After your IPL Photofacial, your skin will go through the natural healing process, which will restore its vitality and complexion. Typically after two weeks, significant improvement will be noticeable with your skin. The treatment will significantly improve hyperpigmentation related to sun damage and such cosmetic concerns as broken capillaries beneath the eyes.

We recommend that patients undergo three to five IPL Photofacial Treatments spaced three to six weeks apart to achieve optimal results for some clients. You can enhance your treatment by using skin-lightening topical treatments before and after your photo facial. Preserving and protecting your beautiful new skin with sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or more is always recommended.
