Hair Restoration with Platelet-Rich Plasma
Book NowLosing your hair can be a frustrating, debilitating experience. For many men and women, their hair is an essential part of their appearance and personal identity. When aging begins to take your hair away, it can become difficult to recognize the person you see in the mirror. At Morpheus Medical Aesthetics, we understand the toll hair loss takes and hope to help you by using advanced regenerative techniques. With platelet-rich plasma therapy, we can successfully combat the effects of genetic hair loss to promote a healthier scalp and improve your self-confidence.
What Is Platelet-Rich Plasma and How Does It Work?
Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is a powerful healing serum made from your own blood. It contains no synthetic materials or added ingredients. Our bodies have an innate ability to heal themselves using natural resources, but sometimes they need a push in the right direction. Using PRP therapy, we can successfully divert the growth factors and nutrients already present in your blood to fight hair loss at its source.
Androgenetic alopecia, better known as male or female pattern baldness, is the direct result of an androgen called dihydrotestosterone (DHT) gradually suffocating your hair follicles. Although the medical community is still actively researching the cause of age-related hair loss, we know that regenerative treatments can rejuvenate follicles that are in the process of dying off. Your follicles produce hair in a constant cycle of growth, shedding, resting and regrowth. When DHT levels increase due to aging, this cycle becomes disrupted and hair production begins to decrease.
With PRP therapy, we can help you regain the hair that time has taken away. Regular PRP injections into the scalp have been shown to mitigate the effects of DHT and keep your follicles alive and well, ensuring you can enjoy a full head of hair later in life. The procedure is quick, simple and repeatable for long-lasting results.
Who Is a Good Candidate for Hair Restoration With PRP?
PRP therapy is safe for balding patients of all ages and genders. One of PRP's biggest strengths as a hair loss treatment is its autologous nature. The serum we use in treatment is made directly from your blood, meaning you will not experience any allergic reactions or adverse side effects from your treatment, just results.
Unfortunately, PRP therapy is not a miracle cure for hair loss. Follicles that have completely died and stopped producing hair cannot be brought back. If you have already lost the majority of your hair, you may be beyond the scope of treatment. If you have follicles that have recently stopped producing hair or slowed down in their hair production, however, PRP therapy may be right for you. PRP can be focused on a single, localized area for bald spot treatment or applied to the entirety of the scalp for diffuse hair loss.
Men and women experience hair loss differently, so what exactly your treatment will look depends entirely on your unique needs. The patients who benefit most from PRP therapy do not smoke, have mild to moderate hair loss and have realistic expectations about their results. During an in-person consultation, we will take the time to listen to all of your concerns and let you know if we think PRP therapy is right for you.
What to Expect During Treatment
At the start of your treatment, your Morpheus technician will draw a small amount of blood from your arm and purify it in a centrifuge machine. The centrifuge will rapidly spin the blood, naturally separating the nutrient-dense PRP from the blood cells and nutrient-poor plasma. After your PRP has been prepared, we can begin treatment on your scalp.
We will apply topical or local anesthesia to your scalp before starting your treatment to ensure you are completely comfortable. Once you are ready to begin, your technician will make a series of injections using a fine needle into the balding sections of your scalp. Exactly where the PRP is injected will depend on where you need it most. You may receive treatment across your entire scalp or in one specific area. Hair restoration with PRP appointments last 30 to 60 minutes on average.
What to Expect After Treatment
We believe in a minimally invasive approach to treatment that provides you with great results without disrupting your busy lifestyle. Following a PRP appointment, you can return home and resume your daily routine, no downtime necessary. Your scalp may feel a bit tight and will appear swollen for a few days. You may also experience a manageable level of discomfort from your injections.
The growth factors and nutrients in the PRP will set to work rejuvenating your follicles and perking up your hair growth over the course of several weeks. Your existing hair will begin to thicken thanks to the fresh supply of nutrients. Sections of your scalp that have thinned out will also fill in as the aging follicles are rejuvenated. You may notice an improvement in your hair within a month or it may take a bit longer for your thicker hair to start coming in. Not every patient experiences the same level of success from PRP therapy and you may see optimal results after a series of PRP treatments.
How Long Does PRP Therapy Last?
While effective in combatting androgenetic alopecia, PRP therapy is not a one-stop solution for age-related hair loss. To experience the best results possible, plan on coming in for treatment at least once per year to keep your follicles nourished and healthy. Some patients benefit most from treatments scheduled at regular intervals throughout the year, while others enjoy thicker hair for 12 months or longer after a single appointment. We will help you plan out a personalized treatment schedule after evaluating the results of your first treatment.
As a regenerative procedure, PRP injections focus on giving your scalp the resources it needs to fight ongoing hair loss, not stop it completely. The persistent effects of hair loss will continue to target your hair follicles and will not stop following PRP therapy. Make sure you plan ahead to give your body continued success in fending off future hair loss.
